Two More Huskies Advance to NCAA Championships

GAINESVILLE, FL (May 29) - Joel Legare (Holden, Mass.), and Paul Pisano (Toms River, N.J.) placed in the top three of events for the University of Connecticut track and field teams today at the NCAA East Regional Championships, held at the University of Florida’s Percy Beard Track. By finishing in the top five, both advance to the NCAA Championships, June 9-12 at the University of Texas.
The duo joins John Barth (South Kingstown, R.I.) who earned a trip to Austin on Friday with a top five performance in the hammer throw.
Legare turned in a time of 1:48.72 in the 800 meter finals that placed him third overall. Pisano booked his ticket to Texas after placing second in the javelin throw with a 74.28 meter (243’8”) heave.
In Friday’s UConn men’s action at Percy Beard Track, Barth (South Kingstown, R.I.) threw a personal-best 62.63 meters (205-6) in the hammer throw to place fifth in the event and score four points for UConn.
Legare finished third in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run with a time of 1:48.72, good enough to advance to today's final along with eight other runners. Sophomore Logan Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) also competed, placing 16th in a time of 1:50.61. In the long jump, junior Brian Egy (Franklin, Mass.) finished 22nd with a jump of 6.87 meters (22-6.5). UConn's final competitor at the regionals on Friday was freshman Daniel Hutcherson (New London, Conn.) who was unable to clear the opening height in the high jump. Hutcherson qualified for the meet by virtue of a 2.13-meter jump which earned him first place at the BIG EAST Championship.
