Three Huskies Recognized by New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches' Association

STORRS, CT (May 10) - Three members of the University of Connecticut softball team were recognized by the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches’ Association as honorable mentions on the 2004 All Star Team. Junior Jessica Gurney (Williamstown, Mass.) was named an honorable mention pitcher, while juniors Jen D’Angelo (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Stephanie DiBiase (Hamilton, N.J.) took the two honorable mention outfielder spots.
Gurney finished the season with a record of 15-12 in the circle for UConn, and was twice named a BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. She struck out 151 batters while walking only 40, and made 31 appearances including 26 starts and 19 complete games. Gurney’s record also included four shutouts.
DiBiase was an offensive leader for the Huskies, with a batting average of .290 to rank second on the team. Her 38 hits tied for third on the squad, and she recorded 22 RBI to rank second. DiBiase struck out just 15 times in 131 at bats, and played and started in 44 games at center field. She also recorded three home runs and five doubles over the course of the season.
D’Angelo ranked third on the team with a batting average of .271, and started all 46 games in left field. She tied for third on the team with 38 hits, including six doubles. D’Angelo ranked first among the outfielders with 58 putouts and two assists, and recorded just one error for a fielding percentage of .984.
UConn’s season is completed, with the team compiling a record of 23-23 overall and 6-12 in the BIG EAST.
