STORRS, CT (April 25) – Seton Hall took two games from the University of Connecticut softball team on Sunday afternoon, both by scores of 5-2. The Huskies never got into an offensive rhythm, and were out-hit 18-7 by the Pirates in the two games combined.

The Huskies scored the first run of the first game in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by junior Mandy Schettini (Coxsackie, N.Y.), but the hit would be only one for UConn until the seventh inning.
Seton Hall took a one-run lead in the third inning on a two RBI single by D’Arcy Djakalovic, and then added three more runs in the top of the sixth. Laura Taylor hit a solo homer to lead off sixth inning for the Pirates, and Danielle Steinseifzer knocked a two RBI single to left center field in an inning that saw Seton Hall record five hits.
UConn started to come on strong in the bottom of the seventh inning, but their three hits resulted in just one run. Maggie Arbogast (Ambler, Pa.) singled with one out, and after a second out, Schettini singled to put two runners on. Stephanie DiBiaise (Hamilton, N.J.) brought Arbogast home with a single, but Seton Hall pitcher Megan Meyer struck out UConn’s final batter to end the game.
Meyer gave up just four hits while striking out 11 in the complete-game for Seton Hall. UConn’s Jessica Gurney (Williamstown, Mass.) took the loss, pitching the complete game and fanning four batters.
Seton Hall struck first in the second game, recording a run in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by Lindsay Trottier.
DiBiase moved her RBI count to three for the day when she hit a home run in the bottom of the second inning with one runner on base. Suzy de Bary (Roxbury, Conn.) singled to lead off that inning, and was put out on a fielder’s choice that allowed Schettini to reach first and score on the home run.
UConn recorded just one more hit down the stretch, while Seton Hall put four more runs on the board. Mary Carroll Smith hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth, and hit her second home run of the game in the sixth inning with two runners on base.
Jessica Jones recorded the win in game two for Seton Hall, striking out six batters and walking one. Michelle Caouette (Wynantskill, N.Y.) took the loss for UConn, fanning seven batters and walking two. DiBiase finished the day going 2-for-5 with one run and three RBI.
