Men's Golf Places Second at New Englands

PROVIDENCE, RI - The University of Connecticut’s men’s golf team fell just six strokes shy of capturing the New England Championship this weekend at the par-72 Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence. UConn’s 589 (+13) was good for second place out of the 14 competing schools, narrowly behind of first place Rhode Island’s 583 (+7).
Jordan Burke, the fall New England champion, narrowly missed repeating the feat with a third place overall finish, shooting a 143 (+1) for the two rounds on the heels of a second-round 69, the top score amongst Sunday’s 69 participating golfers. Dan White and Michael Hornung each shot a 147 to tie for eighth overall. Both golfers carded a 71 during the two-day event. Justin Ciombor’s 152 was good for a 21st place tie while Mike Murphy tied for 34th overall with his 158.
UConn is awaiting word on whether it will be selected for this weekend’s BIG EAST Championships in South Bend, Ind.
