Shannon Murphy Selected Hockey East ITECH Goaltender of the Month

WAKEFIELD, Mass. (Dec. 1) - Senior Shannon Murphy was selected by Hockey East as the ITECH Goaltender of the Month as announced by the conference on Wednesday, Dec. 1. This is the first monthly league honor of Murphy's career. The native of Burrillville, R.I. has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Murphy had a stellar November, recording a 2-1-3 mark with a 1.87 goals against average and .927 save percentage. She opened the month with back-to-back wins over Hockey East foe Boston College. Murphy then notched three straight 2-2 ties, collecting 86 saves on 92 shots faced in that span. She helped UConn continue its eight-game unbeaten streak in the month, the longest in school history.
The Huskies have two games in December as they continue their schedule against nationally ranked teams. Connecticut travels to New Hampshire on Dec. 4 to face the No. 8 Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. UConn then concludes the first half of the season when they host 2004 Frozen Four participant and fifth-ranked Harvard on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Prior to the 7:00 p.m. game, the University of Connecticut will honor head coach Heather Linstad for her 200th career victory achieved on Nov. 13 against North Dakota.
