Women's Soccer Shuts Out Syracuse, 2-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Oct. 8) - The University of Connecticut women's soccer team recorded their sixth win in seven games with a 2-0 shutout of Syracuse Friday night in Syracuse, N.Y. With the win, the Huskies are now 8-5-0 on the season with a 5-2-0 mark in BIG EAST play. Syracuse is 6-4-2 overall with a conference record of 1-3-1.
The game remained scoreless until the 79:51 mark. Junior Kathleen Frank (Lansing, Mich.) deflected the ball off an Orange defender and into the net to give UConn a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Frank's second in three games and third on the season.
Less than a minute later, Connecticut sealed the victory when freshman Karyn Riviere (Guilford, Conn.) also tallied her second goal in three games to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. Senior Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, N.M.) was awarded an assist on the goal, moving her season point total to 20.
On the defensive end the Huskies shut down the Orange, only allowing six shots. Junior keeper Megan Jessee (Orefield, Pa.) collected three saves on the evening for her fifth shutout of the season.
Connecticut out-shot Syracuse 18-6, with the Orange having a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. UConn had 10 fouls to Syracuse's nine.
The Huskies will continue play on the road, facing Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 10 in South Orange, N.J.
