Notre Dame Tops Mens Soccer, 2-0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (Oct. 30) – The University of Connecticut suffered a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame in BIG EAST men’s soccer action on Saturday night. The Huskies fall to 8-7-2 on the season (4-4-1 BIG EAST) and the Irish improve to 13-2-2, with an 8-1-1 BIG EAST record.
UConn created some quality scoring chances in the opening half but were unable to capitalize. Senior Easton Wilson’s (Hartford, Conn.) point blank opportunity was stopped by Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Sawyer in the 33rd minute. Then sophomore Steve Sealy (St. James, Trinidad) narrowly missed putting the Huskies in front 1-0 with a shot just wide of the left goal post.
The match remained scoreless until 84:54 when Joe Lapira headed in the eventual game winner for the Irish on a cross from Nate Norman. John Mousinho then sealed the Notre Dame victory with his ninth of the season at 88:35 from Justin McGeeney.
The Irish outshot Connecticut, 15-7 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Saves were even at 2-2 and fouls were 12-9, Notre Dame.
UConn next travels to Providence on Tuesday, Nov. 2, for its final regular season contest of the year starting at 2:00 p.m.
