Women's Tennis Defeats Quinnipiac, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. (Oct. 20) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team topped intrastate rival Quinnipiac by a score of 5-2 Wednesday afternoon in Hamden, Conn. With the win, the Huskies are now 1-1 in dual matches this fall.
UConn won two matches to take the doubles point. Barbara Schumsky and Liz Dibbs defeated Quinnipiac's Liz Axler and Kat Ehle, 8-6, with Christine Burek and Tiffany Lee also winning 8-6 over Amanda Petruzzi/Danielle Rodriguez to secure the point.
In singles play, UConn won the first four matches for the 5-2 victory. No. 2 Jen LoRusso defeated Tina Hoang in the first set before falling in the second. LoRusso then rallied to win the match, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4. Also rallying from behind was Burek, who dropped her first set 6-7 to Axler before winning the next two 6-4, 6-3. No. 1 Whitney Simcik and No. 4 Burek won both their matches in two sets.
Final Score: Connecticut 5, Quinnipiac 2
