BREWSTER, Mass. (October 19, 2004) - Jason Parajeckas placed third overall to lead the University of Connecticut men’s golf team to the 2004 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association’s fall championship on Tuesday at the Captain’s Course in Brewster, Mass. UConn’s score of 606 topped the 46-team field and was four strokes better than seven-time defending champion Rhode Island. URI tied Bryant College for second place.
UConn last won the fall New England Championship outright in 1982 and last took the spring team title in 1997. The Huskies shared the 1994 New England fall title with Hartford. It is UConn’s first fall tournament win under head coach Ron Dubois, who guided the Huskies to a spring team title at the 2003 Yale Invitational. UConn hadn’t won any fall tournaments since capturing Army’s Mulekicker Classic in 1998.
Parajeckas finished all alone in third place overall with his 147, two strokes behind the leaders. Huskies Justin Ciombor and Brian Travalja tied each other for 13th place overall in the field of 230 with matching scores of 152. Clint Hyland tied for 34th with a 157 while Mike Murphy tied for 52nd overall with his score of 160.
UConn wraps up its fall schedule Oct. 25-26 when it travels to Galloway, N.J. for the John MacDonald Classic, hosted by Temple.
