Neilon, Smith Receive Atlantic Hockey Weekly Accolades

STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 11) - Two members of the University Connecticut men's hockey team received their first career Atlantic Hockey honors as freshman Mike Neilon (St. Paul, Minn.) was named Freshman of the Week and classmate Brad Smith (Detroit, Mich.) was named Goaltender of the Week.
Neilon helped the Huskies rally from a 3-1 deficit against Rensselaer on Sunday at the Maverick Stampede with his first collegiate goal and then netted the shootout winner in the seventh round for a third place finish in the tournament. Smith made his first career appearance in net against RPI, as he entered in relief of an injured Scott Tomes (Windham, N.H.) and made 24 saves, including 11 in the third and seven in the overtime period. He earned also earned credit for the 3-3 tie in the contest.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, Oct. 15, when they host Concordia in an exhibition contest at West Hartford Veteran's Memorial Rink at 7:15 p.m.
