STORRS, CT (June 13) - University of Connecticut assistant softball coach Pat Conlan has announced that she’s accepted an assistant coaching position at North Carolina State. Conlan has spent the past six years with the Huskies and will join the Wolfpack to work with the pitching staff and serve as the recruiting coordinator.
In her final season with the Huskies, four members of the softball team received postseason honors from the BIG EAST Conference. In addition, pitcher Barb Cook was honored by the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association as a member of the Division I All-Star Team. In the 2001 season, Conlan was a member of the Speedline NFCA Northeast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Conlan, a former All-American pitcher for Connecticut, returned to her alma mater in 1998 after a three-year stint as the head softball coach at Fairfield University. Conlan, who was appointed at Fairfield in November of 1994, concluded her tenure in impressive fashion, earning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year honors in 1997. She led the Stags to a school record 29 wins (29-28 overall), a runner-up finish in the MAAC Tournament and the program’s first winning season since 1988. Conlan also served as a Fairfield assistant coach in the spring of 1994, before taking over the program.
In her impressive collegiate career at Connecticut, Conlan was a pitching standout who led the Huskies to a fifth place finish at the 1993 Division I Women’s College World Series. During her senior year, she received NCAA All-American distinction and was honored as a UConn Outstanding Senior Athlete. Conlan was also named BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-BIG EAST, All-New England, All-ECAC and an All-Northeast selection.
During Conlan’s time as a star student-athlete, Connecticut won four BIG EAST Tournament titles and she compiled an impressive 55-17 career record on the pitching mound. She also set UConn single season records for wins (26), shutouts (14), complete games (29) and consecutive innings without allowing an earned run (73.2). In 1993, her 0.33 ERA ranked second nationally, allowing just 11 earned runs in 231.1 innings.
A native of Waterbury, Connecticut, Conlan is a 1993 graduate of the University of Connecticut earning a bachelor’s degree in human development. She is an accredited member of the National Softball Coaches Association (NSCA), the New England Coaches Association (NECA) and the National Intramural and Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA).
During the summer of 1994, Conlan traveled to Holland to compete and coach internationally.
