Huskies Lead BIG EAST After Second Day of Competion

STORRS, CT (May 3)- After the second day of the BIG EAST Track and Field Championship meet held at the University of Connecticut, the Huskies lead the mens teams with 53 points and the Notre Dame leads the women with 46 points. The multi-event competition concluded this afternoon, as Will Thomas (Wakefield, RI) from UConn claimed his second straight men’s decathlon title with 7819 points, shattering his previous BIG EAST record of 7332 points. Thomas’ performance ranks fourth in collegiate leaders this year. Tamara McGill from Pittsburgh took the women’s top honor in the heptathlon with 5240 points, a new meet record. Another top performance on the day came from Providence’s Roisin McGettigan in the 3000 meter steeplechase. McGettigan beat her own BIG EAST meet record with a time of 9:58.26, which ranks her first nationally in the event this year.
