Thomas Leads Decathlon After BIG EAST Day One

STORRS, CT (May 2) – After the first day of competition in the BIG EAST Track and Field Championship meet at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on the UConn campus, Will Thomas (Wakefield, RI) from UConn leads the men’s decathlon with 4194 points and Tamara McGill from Pittsburgh leads the women’s heptathlon with 3,307 points. Thomas placed first in all five events of the day and the UConn men hold the top two spots in the multi-event competition. The women’s team does not have any athletes competing in the heptathlon.
UConn Men’s Day One Decathlon Results:
1. Will Thomas (4194 pts.): 100 meter-11.18, long jump-7.39 (24-3.00), shot put-15.04 (49-4.25), high jump-2.01 (6-7.00), 400 meter-49.03.
2. Mark Jellison (3822 pts.): 100 meter-11.27, long jump-7.12 (23-4.50), shot put-12.55 (41-2.25), high jump-2.01 (6-7.00), 400 meter-51.98.
5. Mike Boney (3555 pts.): 100 meter-11.66, long jump-6.63 (21-9.00), shot put- 12.81 (42-0.50), high jump-1.89 (6-2.25), 400 meter-51.47.
10. Chad Caldwell (3218 pts.): 100 meter-11.73, long jump-6.10 (20-0.25), shot put-11.00 (36-1.25), high jump-1.83 (6-0.00), 400 meter-52.42.
13. John Komorowski (2975 pts.): 100 meter-12.21, long jump-6.16 (20-2.50), shot put-11.22 (36-9.75), high jump-1.71 (5-7.25), 400 meter-54.15.
