CHESTNUT HILL, MA (April 19) – The University of Connecticut softball team dropped a pair of BIG EAST games to Boston College at Shea Field on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies battled in game one, losing 2-1 in nine innings and were shut out in game two, 3-0. UConn drops to 16-18-1 overall and 4-4 in the conference as the Eagles improve to 22-14 overall and 9-1 in BIG EAST games.
The Huskies got on the board first in game one, as freshman Kim Castner (Forked River, NJ) hit a homerun to score the only run of the game for UConn in the top of the fifth. The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on two hits and an error by UConn.
It took BC an extra two innings to get the winning run, but Kim Hopkin hit a double that scored Lisa Fischer for the win. Barb Cook (Conklin, NY) suffered the loss for UConn as Kim Ryan recorded the win for Boston College, striking out eight of the 11 batters she faced.
Ryan started on the mound in game two, pitching a perfect game as UConn did not get a runner on in seven innings. The Eagles scored one run in the first inning and added two more for insurance in the sixth. Jacqui Goodchild hit a homerun as BC’s first batter of the game for the winning run.
Claire Hesson (Kennebunkport, ME) went home with the loss and Ryan earned her second win of the day.
The Huskies return to action on Monday, April 21 when they play host to Villanova University for a makeup doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
