Huskies Fall to Boston University, 3-1

BOSTON, MA (April 16) – Despite a late run in the top of the sixth inning, the University of Connecticut softball team was unable to overcome an early three-run deficit against Boston University on Wednesday. The Huskies are now even at 16-16-1 as BU improves to 15-16.
The Terriers started a rally in their first at-bat, as Jamie Haas singled to first base, then stole second. Abbey Pauley hit a double and advanced to third base on the throw, scoring Haas. BU tallied one more hit to score the winning run in just three batters.
Rookie pitcher Michelle Caouette (Wynantskill, NY) allowed all three runs and was relieved in the third inning by veteran Claire Hesson (Kennebunkport, ME).
The Huskies allowed three more hits to total six, while tallying five of their own. In the sixth inning, Megan Enders (Middletown, MD) started things off for UConn with a double to right field. Mandy Schettini (Coxsackie, NY) followed with a single and advanced on the throw as Enders scored the only run for Connecticut.
Tiffany Finateri recorded the win for Boston with four strikeouts. Caouette took the loss and relief Hesson recorded seven strikeouts in 14 batters faced.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, April 19 when they travel to Chestnut Hill, MA for a doubleheader against Boston College beginning at 12 p.m.
