Huskies Sweep Central Connecticut in Home Opener

STORRS, CT (March 27) – The University of Connecticut softball team took a pair of wins out of their home opener against Central Connecticut on Thursday at the Connecticut Softball Stadium. The Huskies prevailed 7-1 in game one and shut out the Blue Devils, 2-0 in the second game to improve to 8-12-1 on the season as CCSU falls to 4-9.
UConn started off the first game with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Mandy Schettini (Coxsackie, NY) scored on a double down the left field line by Jen D'Angelo (Wyomissing, PA). The Blue Devils were able to tie the game in the third before the Huskies took a commanding lead in the sixth inning, scoring six runs on five hits.
In game two, UConn came out quick again, scoring in the bottom of the first. Central Connecticut could not answer back, however, as the Huskies scored another run in the third to complete the scoring for the afternoon.
Barb Cook (Conklin, NY) and Claire Hesson (Kennebunkport, ME) recorded the wins for UConn as Jessica Cline and Danielle Cyr suffered the losses.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, March 29 when they travel to New Haven, CT to face Yale for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
