Gordon Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, RI (December 22, 2003)-- University of Connecticut guard Ben Gordon has been named the BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Gordon led the Huskies to a 104-54 win over Iona on December 20, posting the first triple-double of his career and only the fifth in school history. Ben scored 17 points, grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds and handed out a career-high 11 assists. He also matched his career-high with five steals.
This marks the second time this season that Gordon has earned league player of the week honors. He was also rewarded for his efforts in the season's opening week, which included a 37-point effort in the win over Nevada on November 19. Gordon earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors one time last season and was the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on two occasions in his freshman campaign during the 2001-02 season.
Ben leads the Huskies in 2003-04 at 19.1 points per contest and is also averaging 4.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals. He is shooting 50.4% from the field and 50.0% from three-point range.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday, December 28 with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Ball State at the Hartford Civic Center.
