STORRS, CT (Nov. 10) - Bill Magnuson (Rochdale, MN), a freshman on the University of Connecticut men’s hockey team, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for his performance against AHA opponent Canisius on Nov. 7.
Magnuson scored the first goal of his UConn career in the game, and did it in timely fashion, sliding the puck past the Canisius goaltender in overtime to give the Huskies a 4-3 win. Magnuson’s second assist of the year also came during the win at Canisius, when he helped get the puck to Eric Nelson for UConn’s second goal of the game. The freshman currently has one goal and two assists on the season for three points.
The win over the Golden Griffs was the second of the season for the Huskies, and their first-ever in Atlantic Hockey Association play. Magnuson’s honor is the first UConn has received in the newly-formed league, which began this season and includes eight other former members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The Huskies will continue their seven-game stretch of AHA games this weekend, when they travel to American International on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 p.m. UConn will also take on AIC in their first regular-season home game of the year, set for Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:05 p.m.
