UConn Falls 6-1 to UMass in Dual Match Play

AMHERST, MA (Oct. 9) - The University of Connecticut women’s tennis team was defeated 6-1 by UMass, putting their record at 2-1 in dual match play for the fall season. In the doubles matches, the #2 team of Dorothy Iwanowicz and Christine Liehr defeated Christine Burek and Ashley Petruzzi, 8-3. In the #3 doubles, Susan Hyams and Sasha Edelstein took an 8-4 win over Jen LoRusso and Christi Lazar to earn the doubles point for the Minutewomen.
In singles action, the UMass women were dominant, winning five of six matches. In #2 singles, Jenny Munroe defeated Alison Adamski 6-2, 6-3. In the #3 slot, LoRusso lost 6-1, 6-1 to Liehr. In the #4 match, Edelstein tallied another Minutwoman point by defeating Burek, 6-0, 6-3. In the #5 singles match, Elizabeth Conyer defeated Petruzzi, 6-0, 6-4. Jana Bartoloni closed out the scoring for Massachusetts, defeating Lazar, 7-5, 6-1.
UConn had two wins on the day, as Whitney Simcik and Adamski took a 9-8 win at the #1 doubles spot in a hard-fought match, and Simcik continued her success with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 victory over Price at the #1 singles spot.
