Simcik and Adamski Going Strong at ITA Regional Championships

BLACKSBURG, VA (Oct. 25) - Whitney Simcik (Exeter, PA) and Alison Adamski (Jamaica Estates, NY) put together performances that made them the first University of Connecticut women’s tennis doubles team to ever make it to the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships. The tournament is being held this weekend at Virginia Tech, and the pair have defeated two sets of opponents to advance to the round. Their next match will take place Sunday, Oct. 26 at 9:00 a.m.
The pair of Simcik and Adamski defeated their opponents from Penn State 8-5 in the round of 64, and followed it up with an 8-4 win over Crandall and Jaxheimer from Dartmouth. Tomorrow they will face the winner of a match between pairs from Harvard and Quinnipiac.
In singles play, both girls lost in the opening rounds, but each followed with a win in the consolation round. Adamski defeated Erin Fleming of URI 6-1, 6-2 before falling in the round of 16 to Dora Bechliwanis of Virginia by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Simcik won her first consolation match against Cathrine Crandall of Dartmouth by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 before falling to Danielle Hock of Marshall in the round of 16.
