UConn Looks Forward After a Strong Weekend Outing

STORRS, CT (October 21) – The University of Connecticut men’s soccer team is coming off a successful weekend, both on and off the playing field. With a strong showing of fan support and a win over a nationally ranked squad, the Huskies continue to strive as the regular season will close out in the next two weeks.
On Friday night, the men’s soccer program hosted the annual Meet the Huskies Dinner in Rome Ballroom on South Campus in Storrs. Over 400 supporters attended the dinner that included an autograph session with the players, dinner with an athlete at each table and a portion of the evening was dedicated to honoring former players and coaches, as well as members of Friends of Soccer. One of the most special parts of the evening was all three Connecticut National Championship coaches were in attendance. Pioneer of the men’s national NCAA Tournament and Connecticut’s 1948 national championship coach Dr. John Squires, along with Joe Morrone, who lead the 1981 team to UConn’s second title, were honored by current head coach Ray Reid, who guided the Huskies to the 2000 national title.
The following evening, on October 18, Connecticut played host to BIG EAST rival and No. 10 nationally ranked Notre Dame at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The Huskies came out victorious, with a 1-0 win, on a goal by junior transfer Easton Wilson (Hartford, CT) in the 41st-minute of play.
The game also marked a season-high crowd of 4,802 fans, who rallied behind the Huskies in their win. The crowd was the ninth largest overall BIG EAST game, and fifth largest BIG EAST regular season game in program history. Connecticut is in the quest to break its own 2002 NCAA Home Attendance Record set last season. The Huskies have owned the last four of five NCAA Attendance Records, and are looking for their fifth overall and second consecutive record.
Connecticut will face instate rival Hartford, on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:00 pm at Morrone Stadium in Storrs.
