Huskies Fall to Penn State on Late Goal

STORRS, CT (Sept. 6, 2002)-- Senior Heather Conroy scored her second goal of the game with 2:23 left in the game to give the Penn State University field hockey team a 2-1 victory Friday night over the University of Connecticut at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
Penn State improves to 2-0 on the season with the win, while the Huskies fall to 1-2 on the year.
Conroy’s game-winning goal came off a penalty corner feed from sophomore Michelle Rigby. The duo also teamed up for the first Penn State goal of the game, which came just under nine minutes into the second half and gave the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies had tied the score at 1-1 with just under 15 minutes to play on a goal by sophomore Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe). Henderson’s goal was her team-leading fourth of the season and came off a penalty corner feed from freshman Laura Puddle (Thames, England).
UConn junior goalie Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY) made four saves on the night for the Huskies, while her Penn State counterpart, senior Annie Zinkavich stopped five Connecticut shots on goal.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday, September 10 with a 7:00 p.m. contest against the University of New Hampshire at Harvard in Cambridge, MA.
