Huskies 15th After First Day at McLaughlin

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (September 27) – The University of Connecticut’s men’s golf team opened play on Friday competing tin The McLaughlin hosted by St. John’s University at Bethpage State Park’s Red Course. Rain shortened the day’s expected 36 holes of action to just 18 as the Huskies turned in a +19 performance (299 strokes), placing them 15th and one stroke back of a three-way tie for 12th between Penn, Richmond and Villanova. The Red Storm shot a scintillating -8 to hold the overall lead after day one by 10 strokes over second place Princeton.
The Huskies were led by team captain Nate Thomsen who shot a two-over-par 72 to tie for 22nd overall. Mike Murphy was tied for 52nd with a 75, Justin Ciombor and Adam Kolloff tied for 60th by shooting 76 while Daniel Keefe wrapped up the round for UConn’s golfers with a 78 to tie for 77th.
Second round play will be held on Saturday on Long Island.
