STORRS, CT (Sept. 22) – A late second half goal from Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, NM) helped lift the No. 13 University of Connecticut women's soccer team past BIG EAST rival No. 22 nationally ranked Boston College, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium. The BIG EAST Northeast Division win improved UConn's overall record to 7-1-1, 2-0-0 in the league, while BC fell to 4-3-1 overall, 0-2-0 in BIG EAST.
Despite out-shooting the Eagles, 11-4, in the first half, the Huskies fell behind after 30-minutes of play. On the team’s first shot of the game, Katherine Halloran scored for Boston College. Halloran took a shot from the left side of the goal and placed it just inside the right goalpost. Credited with the assist was Sarah Rahko.
The Huskies tied it up in the tenth minute of the second half on a goal from Jennifer Sullivan (Stonington, CT). A number of players from each team got a foot on the ball before Sullivan was able to control the header from Salla Ranta (Helskinki, Finland) and put it in the net for the tie. Graczyk added her goal at the 72:33 mark to put the Huskies ahead for the win. Graczyk received a pass in the box from Megan Almanzo (New Hope, MN) and shot toward the far post.
