Huskies Open Season at Yale

NEW HAVEN (September 15) – The University of Connecticut’s men’s golf team made its 2002-03 season debut this weekend playing in the MacDonald Cup at the par-70 Yale University Golf Course in New Haven. The Huskies, under the leadership of Ron Dubois for the first time, placed 11th of 18 schools competing with a score of 921 (+81), just one stroke shy of tying for ninth place.
Mike Murphy led the way for UConn, shooting a 72 in the final round on Sunday to finish with a three-round total of 228 (+18) and place tied for 24th. Amongst other UConn players, Justin Ciombor (230, +20) tied for 32nd, Nathan Thompsen (235, +25) tied for 53rd and Huskies Jordan Burke and Daniel Keefe tied each other for 58th place with a 26-over 236 for the weekend.
"It was the first outing with a new team and they represented us very well," Dubois said. "It was a very difficult course. I’m not totally happy with our location in the 18 teams in the final standings but this was a decent showing for our first time out."
UConn gets back to action September 26-28 when the Huskies travel to Farmingdale, NY to play in the McLaughlin at Bethpage Red, hosted by St. John’s.
