STORRS, CT (Sept. 11) – The Connecticut women’s soccer team picked up a tie this afternoon, ending 1-1 with BIG EAST opponent Villanova after two overtime periods. The contest does not count toward either team’s BIG EAST conference standings, however, and UConn now holds an overall record of 3-1-1, while the Wildcats stand at 3-0-1.
Connecticut pulled ahead shortly in the first half behind an unassisted goal from Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, NM). Graczyk put in her fifth goal of the season on the left side past goalie Chrissy Dolan.
Villanova answered back in the second half to tie the score and send the game into overtime. Laura Johnson put in a header to the lower left corner of the net on a pass from Patricia Misciagna.
Each team added two more scoring chances in the overtime periods, but goalkeepers Maria Yatrakis (Brooklyn, NY) and Dolan came up big to keep the game tied. Despite out shooting Villanova, 19-8, the Huskies were unable tally a win.
Connecticut travels to Madison, WI this weekend to participate in the Rocky Rococo Soccer Invite. The Huskies face off with the hosting Badgers on Friday at 8:30 p.m. (EST) and meet St. Louis on Sunday at noon (EST).
