2002-03 Non-Conference Schedule Announced

STORRS, CONNECTICUT (July 23, 2002)—The University of Connecticut’s 2002-2003 men’s basketball non-conference schedule includes 11 games, highlighted by a trio of intersectional non-league match-ups on the road against Vanderbilt, North Carolina and 2002 Final Four participant Oklahoma.
The 11-game non-conference slate includes eight home games and three road contests. Games times, home arenas and television plans for all contests will be announced at a later date.
UConn’s 2002-2003 regular season schedule opens on Saturday, November 23 against Quinnipiac University. Prior to the regular season, UConn will play two exhibition games against opponents to be determined—on November 4 and November 16.
The Huskies will hit the road for intersectional match-ups against SEC foe Vanderbilt on December 1, Big 12 opponent and Final Four participant Oklahoma on January 7 and traditional ACC power North Carolina on January 18.
Another highlight of the non-conference schedule includes a pair of match-ups with former UConn assistant coaches. The Huskies will host former assistant coach and Husky letterwinner Karl Hobbs and the Colonials of George Washington on Monday, November 25. Connecticut also matches up with Howie Dickenman and the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut on Saturday, December 28.
The opponents and sites for Connecticut’s 16-game BIG EAST Conference schedule are also set, with dates and arenas expected to be announced during the month of August. The Huskies will play two games against each of their East Division opponents (Boston College, Miami, Providence, St. John’s, Villanova and Virginia Tech) and four games against West Division foes (road contests at Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, home games against Rutgers and Syracuse).
