STORRS, CT (June 3, 2002) -- Senior Dan Wilson (West Haven, CT) and sophomore Paul Pisano (Toms River, NJ) of the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team both earned All-America honors by finishing in the top eight Americans in their respective events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship this past weekend at Louisiana State University. Wilson and Pisano join sophomore Will Thomas (Wakefield, RI) as UConn’s All-Americans during the outdoor season. By garnering the honor, Wilson becomes UConn’s first-ever five-time All-American in any sport in the school’s athletics history.
Wilson raced to a ninth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:44.46 on Saturday. His finish placed him among the top eight Americans in the field, thus earning All-America honors. The senior standout previously earned All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in 2000 and 2001 and the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, where he garnered All-America status in the distance medley relay in 2000 and the mile in 2002.
The All-America honors are the first of Pisano’s career. Pisano placed 12th in the javelin throw on Thursday, good enough to finish among the top eight Americans. He recorded a throw of 68.34 meters (224’2”) in his first trip to the NCAA Championship.
Thomas was awarded All-America honors by virtue of an eighth-place finish in the decathlon with a school record 7,630 points on Saturday.
