STAMFORD, CT (June 18, 2002) -- Junior Mike Deibler (Monroe, NY) of the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country University Division Second Team. The track and field/cross country Academic All-America teams, in their inaugural season, were selected by a national vote of 1,800-member CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Deibler, a Sport, Leisure and Exercise major with a 3.547 grade point average (GPA), captured both the 2002 indoor and outdoor BIG EAST titles in the high jump. He also finished second at the IC4A Outdoor Championship and posted eight victories in the high jump combined during the indoor and outdoor seasons. A 2000-01 BIG EAST Academic All-Star, Deibler is a three-time member of the Dean’s List and five-time member of the Director of Athletics Honor Roll at UConn.
Last month, each CoSIDA district named 10 first team members to advance to national balloting. From these nominations, three teams of 15 members were selected as Academic All-Americas in the university division. Teren Jamison of the University of Utah was named University Team Member of the Year. Jamison, the Mountain West Conference’s indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter champion, is an Electrical Engineering major with a 3.98 GPA.
