AMHERST, MA (May 3, 2002) - The University of Connecticut softball team was overcome by UMass for the third time this season, 1-0, Friday evening at the UMass Softball Complex.
The loss drops the Huskies record to 13-24 overall and moves the Minutewomen to 45-10.
UConn was able to tally one more hit this time than in the last match-up, but that still only amounted to two hits. The Huskies did, however, hold UMass to just the one run on the day, which came in the third inning off of two singles and a sacrifice bunt.
Junior pitcher Barb Cook (Conklin, NY) took the loss to fall to 8-19 overall, while UMass pitcher Jennifer Hadley picked up her 20th win of the season.
Freshman Mandy Schettini (Coxsackie, NY), who had the Huskies only hit against UMass last week, came up with one of the two hits in this game as well. Sophomore Maggie Arbogast (Ambler, PA) tallied the other hit.
The Huskies conclude their 2002 season at noon on Sunday, May 5, when they play host to Cornell at the UConn Softball Field. Prior to the game, 2002 seniors Lisa Girolamo and Caryn Haskins will be honored as part of Senior Day.
