Deibler Named Verizon Academic District I First Team Selection

STORRS, CT (May 23, 2002) -- Junior Mike Deibler (Monroe, NY) of the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team has been named a Verizon Academic All-District I First Team selection. Balloting was done by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), and the results for each of the nation’s districts were announced this week.
The 2002 BIG EAST Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the high jump, Deibler and other members of the District I First Team will move on to the national level, where national balloting by CoSIDA members will determine the Verizon Academic All-America Teams. The results for men’s track and field/cross country will be announced June 18.
Deibler is a Sport, Leisure and Exercise major with a 3.547 grade point average and has been named to Dean’s List three times. A 2000-01 BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team selection, Deibler is a New England, BIG EAST and IC4A point-scorer who registered eight victories in the high jump during the 2002 indoor and outdoor seasons and finished as the high jump runner-up at last weekend’s IC4A Championship.
