FAYETTEVILLE, AR (Mar. 8, 2002) -- Senior Wadudah Nurul-Islam (Providence, RI) of the University of Connecticut women’s track and field team has garnered All-America honors, posting a sixth-place finish with an effort of 19.76 meters (64’10”) in the weight throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The University of Florida’s Candice Scott won the event with a heave of 23.05 meters (75’71/2”).
Nurul-Islam’s performance is the 14th All-America accolade in the history of the UConn women’s track and field program and is the first of her career. She qualified for this season’s NCAA Championship, the first of her career, by virtue of an NCAA automatic-qualifying heave of 19.79 meters (64’111/4”), which she posted last weekend in a victory at the ECAC Championship.
Tomorrow afternoon UConn sophomore Deirdre Mullen (Princeton, NJ) will compete in the high jump at 3:45 p.m.
