Mendel Earns All-America Status

STORRS, CT (March 27) -- University of Connecticut men’s track and field junior Joe Mendel (Wayne, NJ) garnered All-America accolades for his performance at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, the NCAA announced today.
The honor is the first for Mendel, who clocked the 15th-fastest time overall at the championship in the 400-meters (47.36) on March 9 at the University of Arkansas. His time was among the top eight for Americans, qualifying him for All-America status.
Mendel qualified for the NCAA Championship by virtue of a time of 46.69 at the IC4A Championship, where he took home top honors in the 400-meters.
