UConn places fifth at Kauai Collegiate Cup

PRINCEVILLE, HI (March 23) – The University of Connecticut men’s golf team finished tied with Akron for fifth place with a combined score of 891 at the Kauai Collegiate Cup on Saturday at the Princeville Makai Golf Course. Western Kentucky won the tournament, which included eight teams, with a three-round score of 867.
Xavier's Miles Maillet was the individual medalist. Maillet overcame a two-shot deficit in the final round by shooting a 70 (-2) for a tournament-best 211, one stroke ahead of Eastern Michigan's Nic Watson. UConn senior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT), who was tied for third place heading into the final round, slipped to sixth place overall with a 73 (+1) on the final day and an even-par 216 for the tournament.
Senior Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) shot a 70 in the final round and jumped five spots in the standings to finish tied for seventh with a 219. Freshman Mike Murphy’s (Woburn, MA) final round 75 was good enough to place him 25th overall with a 228. Senior Kevin Coghlan (Northridge, CA) and freshman Justin Ciombor (Plainville, MA) rounded out UConn’s scoring, each carding a 231 to tie with one other for 31st place.
UConn will be back in action on Friday, April 5, at the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate in Greenville, NC.
