Seven Huskies Take First Place Finishes at FIU

MIAMI (March 23) -- In the first outdoor meet of the season, the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team had eight athletes record first-place finishes on Saturday at the Florida International Collegiate Invitational.
Seniors Dan Wilson (West Haven, CT) and Jeremy Rice (Old Saybrook, CT) led the way for the Huskies with wins in the 1,500 meter run and discus throw, respectively. Wilson recorded a time of 3:51.49 while Rice notched a heave of 45.96 meters (150’ 9").
Juniors Mike Deibler (Monroe, NY) and Ken Goglas (Randolph, NY) took first place in the high jump and the 3,000 meter steeplechase, respectively. Deibler recorded a leap of 2.03 meters (6’ 8") and Goglas recorded a time of 9:46.00.
A trio of sophomores rounded out UConn’s top finishers. John Barth (Wakefield, RI) won the hammer throw with a heave of 56.00 meters (183’ 9"), and Joe DiCola (Courtland Manor, NY) took the decathlon with a score of 6,292. Paul Pisano (Toms River, NJ) tied teammate Brian Hartley (Jr., Norwalk, CT) for first in the shot put; both recorded throws of 14.98 meters (49’ 1.75").
Connecticut will be back in action when it hosts Rhode Island, Providence College, Boston College and Central Connecticut State University for a meet on April 6 at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
