Several Huskies Advance in IC4A Preliminary Action

BOSTON, MA (Mar. 2, 2002) – In preliminary action at the IC4A Championship on Saturday, a number of Husky athletes advanced to Sunday finals action.
Recording a time of 2:25.43 in the prelims, senior Dan Wilson (West Haven, CT) will be competing in the 1,000-meter run while fellow senior Elliott Blount (Freeport, NY) will run in the 500-meter dash on Sunday. Blount registered a time of 1:03.87 in the 500-meters prelims.
Junior Joe Mendel (Wayne, NJ) also qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Adebo Oshodi (White Plains, NY) and sophomore Chris Charles (Park Ridge, NJ) advanced to the finals of the 200-meter dash while the distance medley relay team qualified for the finals by virtue of a time of 9:59.21 in preliminary action.
UConn will also be represented by two athletes in the 60-meter hurdles semi-finals on Sunday, as both junior Ricky Gross (Nanuet, NY) and freshman Mike Delgado (Bridgewater, MA) advanced in preliminary action.
On Friday, junior Mike Boney (East Haven, CT) put UConn on the board, scoring the Huskies’s first points of the competition by placing third in the pentathlon with a personal record 3,712 points.
