Huskies Fall 4-2 to Cornell

ITHACA, NY (February 24) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team fell to Cornell University, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon in its last regular season road game in Ithaca, NY. The Huskies fell to 11-18-2 overall, while Cornell jumped to 7-16-1.
Sarah Olivier opened the day’s scoring at the 5:45 mark of the first period. Kim Berry (Haverhill, MA) responded with less than five minutes remaining in the stanza notching an unassisted short-handed goal to tie the game.
Cornell scored three second period goals to take the lead for the remainder of the game, including two short-handed scores by Lindsay Murao. Briana Jenther also added a power play goal at the midpoint.
UConn’s Jacqui McGuire (Glenview, IL) cut the score by two at the 5:24 mark of the final period. Berry assisted her on the goal.
Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) stopped 24 shots on goal for UConn, while Sanya Sandahl made 23 saves. Cornell out shot UConn, 28-25.
Connecticut will host Maine in the final weekend of regular season play on March 1 (7 pm) and 2 (3 pm) at the UConn Ice Arena.
