BOSTON, MA (Feb. 23, 2002) -- Easily outdistancing the field with 180 points, the University of Connecticut men’s track and field team claimed its ninth consecutive New England Indoor Championship crown, besting Northeastern, who had 70 points.
On Saturday, UConn was paced by its strong middle distance team, led by senior All-Americans Elliott Blount (Freeport, NY) and Dan Wilson (West Haven, CT). Wilson edged the school record in the mile that he set in preliminary action on Friday, recording a time of 4:01.32 to notch the individual victory while Blount took first in the 1,000-meter run with 2:29.36.

Senior Adebo Oshodi (White Plains, NY) took second to Mendel in the 200-meters and also placed second in the 55-meter dash with 6.49.
The 4x800-meter relay team rounded out the Husky victories on the day with a time of 7:37.06.
On Friday, UConn stormed to the early lead and never looked back, led by victories in the distance medley relay, the long jump and the pole vault, in which sophomore Chris Mazza (Toms River, NJ) recorded a school record of 16’6”.
