Huskies to Host Rutgers in BIG EAST Quarters

STORRS, CT (November 4) – The University of Connecticut men’s soccer team will face Rutgers University in a quarterfinal game of the 2002 BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday, November 9 at 1:00 pm at Morrone Stadium. Connecticut fell to the No. 3 seed after Boston College defeated Rutgers, 3-2, on Monday afternoon capturing the BIG EAST Regular Season Title.
Connecticut, ranked sixth nationally, went 7-3 in conference play and 13-4 overall. UConn, making its 18th championship appearance, will play host to No. 6 Rutgers. Senior Damani Ralph leads the Huskies with 14 goals and four assists for 32 points this season and rookie keeper Adam Schuerman has played and started in all 17 games for UConn sporting a goals against average of 0.83.
The Scarlet Knights went 5-4-1 in league play and 8-7-3 overall. RU tied Georgetown for the fifth place in the regular season race, but the Hoyas earned the No. 5 seed by virtue of a regular season win over the Knights. RU has played in every BIG EAST Championship since joining the league in 1995 and the title in 1997.
All four quarterfinal games of the conference tournament will be played in Saturday, November 9 at the sites of the top four seeds, while Rutgers will serve as host for the semifinals and championship final on November 15 & 17. Selection and seeding for the tournament is based on regular season finish with the top eight teams qualifying.
Boston College, the top seed of the tournament, will play host to No. 8 Providence; No. 2 St. John’s will face No. 7 Seton Hall; while No. 6 Georgetown will travel to No. 4 Notre Dame.
