FINDLAY, OH (November 16) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team picked up another non-league win, shutting out Findlay, 2-0, at the Clauss Ice Arena on Saturday.
Angie Wallace (Mullett Lake, MI) scored her fourth goal of the season and second game-winner halfway through the first period. Janelle Armitage (Kinsella, Alberta) scored her first point with the Huskies as she notched the assist. Armitage took control of the puck in the defensive zone and passed it out to Wallace, who crept behind the Oilers defense and placed a shot top-shelf on the glove side.
Findlay came out stronger in the second, firing 16 shots toward rookie goaltender Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta), but Shain was solid, turning away all of them.
After an Oilers timeout, Connecticut scored the game-sealer on the empty net when Sara Mahoney (Lynn, MA) sank her team-leading fifth goal of the season at 19:53 in the third to pick up another win for the Huskies.
The Huskies claimed the win despite being out-shot 33-22. Shain stopped all 33 shots for UConn, as Findlay goaltender Jessica Moffat took home a loss and saved 20.
UConn continues its road trip when they face Ohio State on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
