Ralph, Curtis Earn BIG EAST Awards

PISCATAWAY, NJ (November 14) – Two men’s soccer players from the University of Connecticut were honored with player of the year awards, while five others were named to one of the three All-BIG EAST Teams. Damani Ralph (Kingston, Jamaica) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, teammate Anthony Curtis (Kingston, Jamaica) earned the Midfielder of the Year award.
Ralph has been a key part of the Husky offense since arriving in Storrs in 2001 from Meridian Community College. This season, he leads the team in scoring with 15 goals and four assists for 34 points, surpassing his point total of 26 from 2001. Ralph led the BIG EAST during the regular season in points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals. In only two seasons, he has scored 25 goals and added 10 assists for 60 points. He has notched a total of 10 game-winners, has had 19 multiple-point games and holds a 1.5 points per games. Ralph was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team, to the All-New England Third Team in 2001 and a four-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Curtis has directed the Huskies’ midfield for the second consecutive season. As a starter in all 16 games he has played, the Kingston, Jamaica native has added a team-best eight assists which ranks him third among all league players. Four of Curtis’ assists came in eight BIG EAST games.
Connecticut will face No. 2 seed and nationally ranked St. John’s on Friday, November 15 at 5:00 pm at Yurcak Field on the Rutgers campus.
