Providence, RI (Oct. 7, 2002)- The University of Connecticut field hockey team swept the BIG EAST Weekly awards for the week of Oct. 7, when sophomores Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) and Lauren Christie (Raby, Australia) were named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, as announced on Monday by the BIG EAST Conference.

The forward tied a school record with five goals in UConn's 6-0 win over Quinnipiac on Friday night, and had a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over Yale during the week. This was Henderson's second straight Offensive Player of the Week honor and she leads the league with 15 goals and 33 total points (15 goals, 3 assists).
Christie earned her first weekly honor after helping the Huskies to two straight shutouts from her back position. She held UConn opponents to only four shots on the week while adding a goal and four assists in two games.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to face BIG EAST foe Boston College at 7:00 p.m.
