Huskies Defeated By Wisconsin, 4-2

STORRS, CT (October 20) – For the second straight day, the University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team was defeated by No. 6 University of Wisconsin, a 4-2 loss, at the UConn Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon. UConn dropped its overall record to 0-4-0, while Wisconsin improved to 4-0-0.
UConn held the Badgers to one goal in the first period, while the play was even between the two squads as Wisconsin only out shot UConn, 12-10. After several shots from in front of the UConn goal, Nicole Uliasz flicked the puck over the shoulders of Connecticut goalie Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) from the initial saves at the 3:19 mark of the period.
Caitlyn Salazer-Reid (London, Ontario) notched a power play tally 2:28 into the second period to even the score at 1-1. The shot was taken from in between the face-off circles and was setup by Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) and Shannon Connolly (Baldwinsville, NY).
Wisconsin took a commanding lead in the third period scoring three goals including two on the power play, in a 4:16 time span. Kerry Weiland pushed the Badgers ahead at the 2:02 mark of the period. Jackie Friesen and Sis Paulsen notched the power play goals at 4:23 and 6:18, respectively, to raise the score to 4-1. Sara Mahoney (Lynn, MA) brought UConn within two just past the midpoint (11:30) of the period during a power play. Stef Snow (Nashua, NH) and Owens assisted on the goal.
Murphy suffered the loss in net for UConn recording 40 saves, while Jackie MacMillan stopped 22 shots on goal. Wisconsin out shot Connecticut, 44-24.
UConn will travel to Quinnipiac University on Friday, November 1 at the Northford Ice Pavilion for a 7:00 pm start.
