STORRS, CT (Oct. 20) – Rookie Brittany Barakat (Arlington, TX) scored two to pull the University of Connecticut women's soccer team past the Pirates of Seton Hall on Sunday at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies improve to 12-2-1, 4-0-0 BIG EAST as the Pirates fall to 6-9-1, 1-4-1 in the conference.
Seton Hall scored on their first shot of the game on a free kick from Jocelyn Dumaresq. The ball sailed just out of reach of Husky goaltender Yatrakis (Brooklyn, NY) to the top of the net. Barakat answered back just over ten minutes later when Lauren Naida (Suffield, CT) sent a long ball up the left side. Barakat tried some footwork in front of the net and beat Leah Miller, who was coming out for the save. The Huskies scored the go-ahead goal later in the first half in a tangle in front of the net. Zahra Jalalian (Auburn, WA) sent a pass out front and in all the confusion, Megan Almanzo (New Hope, MN) was able to get a foot on the ball to score the game-winner.
Barakat scored her second of the game on a slow pass from Salla Ranta (Helsinki, Finland) that she was able to redirect right in front of Miller and send it to the lower left hand corner of the net.
Yatrakis stopped one for the Huskies in the win, while Seton Hall’s Miller turned away six.
