Huskies Slide By Boston College, 1-0

NEWTON, MA (October 2) – Damani Ralph (Kingston, Jamaica) scored the game-winning goal with under five-minutes left in regulation to lift No. 7 University of Connecticut men’s soccer team past No. 15 Boston College in a BIG EAST match-up on Wednesday afternoon in Newton, MA. The win improved the Huskies to 7-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the conference, while Boston College dropped to 5-2-0, and suffered it first BIG EAST loss of the season (3-1-0).
The first half was evenly played by both teams, each side getting several scoring chances. The second half turned in favor of UConn, with the Huskies out shooting the Eagles, 16-5 in the stanza. Mike Mordocco (Dix Hills, NY) fed an outside left footed pass up the left side line to Ralph. He took the shot about five yards out on the right side of the goal to the lower opposite side for the lone score of the game. The goal was Ralph’s team-leading eighth of the season, fourth game winning, and he has scored the last three of UConn’s goals scored. With minutes to play, Connecticut keeper Adam Schuerman (Brookfield, WI) made two diving saves off rebounded shots to preserve the Husky win.
Schuerman ended the game making five saves, while BC’s Kyle Singer recorded nine saves in net. The shutout was the fifth of six wins for Schuerman on the season. In total, UConn out shot Boston College, 24-15.
Connecticut will host BIG EAST opponent Georgetown on Saturday, October 5 at 7:00 pm at Morrone Stadium.
