Midnight Madness Kicks Off Husky Basketball 2002-03

Storrs, Connecticut (October 11-12, 2002)-- The University of Connecticut men's basketball team kicked off practice for the 2002-03 season with its annual Midnight Madness practice late Friday night and early Saturday morning at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
A crowd of approximately 8,000 enthusiastic supporters greeted the Huskies at the stroke of midnight, officially kicking off the 2002-03 campaign.
The team competed in a dunk contest, three-point shooting contest and and 20-minute scrimmage.
Sophomore (Lonoke, AR) captured the slam dunk contest, beating junior (Coatesville, PA) in the finals. Senior (Providence, RI) and freshman (Toronto, Canada) were eliminated in the first round.
Sophomore (Mount Vernon, NY) captured the three-point shooting contest, defeating Denham Brown in the finals by a score of 17-11. Robertson and freshman (Lakeland, FL) were the other contestants.
The event concluded with a 20-minute, running time, scrimmage consisting of two 10-minute halves. The complete statistics follow this release.
The UConn men will hit the court later Saturday morning with a 10:30 practice in Guyer Gymnasium. The squad will conclude practice in Gampel Pavilion from Noon until approximately 2:00 p.m.
