STORRS, CT (September 19, 2001) -- Kelly Stolle (Warren, CT) continued her excellent junior campaign today as she led the No. 14 Huskies to a 4-1 win over the Harvard Crimson at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
With the win, UConn improved to 3-2 on the season, while Harvard dropped to 1-2.
Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe), who is having an excellent freshman season in her own right, got the ball rolling with the first goal of the game at the 30:37 mark of the first half off an assist by freshman Kirsty Slagter.
Stolle netted the Huskies’ next two goals of thegame, her fourth and fifth of the seaon. The second came from sophomore Amy Marland (Raby, Australia), but the first was unassisted.
Harvard refused to stay quiet, though, as the Crimson made a small comeback with a goal midway though the first half by Mina Pell from Heather Hussey.
That was all they would tack on the board, though, as the Huskies sealed the deal with a fourth goal at the 23:04 mark of the second half by Marland, assisted by Stolle.
Deflecting the Crimson’s 20 shots on the game was UConn goalie Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY) who tallied 16 saves for the game.
The Huskies are back in action at noon on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex when they take on Villanova in their first BIG EAST match-up of the season.
