CONNECTICUT, SYRACUSE FAVORED IN BIG EAST PRESEASON FIELD HOCKEY POLL

PROVIDENCE, RI—Defending league champion Connecticut and Syracuse each received 21 points to tie for the No. 1 spot in the 2001 BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey preseason coaches’ poll.
UConn, which has won the BIG EAST regular season title each of the past five years and added the league’s tournament championship in four of the past five seasons, received two first place votes in the balloting. Syracuse received four first place votes.
Connecticut placed two athletes on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team---senior Megan Ware (Latham, NY), who was a unanimous selection, and sophomore Amy Marland (Mt. Warrigal, New Australia).
