Thomas Places 15th In Decathlon At Nationals

Eugene, OR- The University of Connecticut men's outdoor track and field season came to a close Thursday afternoon as freshman Will Thomas (Wakefield, RI) completed competition in the decathlon at the 2001 Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championship where he placed 15th in with a score of 6,689.
Oregon's Santiago Lorenzo, who entered as the fourth seed and posted 7,889 points, won the event.
Thomas came into nationals as the only freshman in the country to be a part of the field. His 7, 363 points to win the event at the IC4A Championship qualified him to make the trip and broke his own school record. Thomas, originally set the UConn standard at the BIG EAST Championship where he won with a score of 7,303.
