Men's Golf Finishes Fourth in Yale University Spring Open

NEW HAVEN, CT -- University of Connecticut men’s golf team shot a two-day team score of 612 to finish 4th in the Yale University Spring Open at the yae Golf Course in New Haven, CT, this weekend. Army won the team competition shooting a 603, placing four golfers in the top 20, on the par-70, 6,749 yard course.
Medalist honors went to Lee Birchall (Dartmouth), who finished even both days, and led the field with a two-day score of 140. The Huskies placed all five golfers in the top 30. Kevin O’Connor (East Lyme, CT) paced the Huskies with a team-best 14th place finish carding a 152 (76- 76) on the weekend, while Geoffrey Reilert (Simsbury, CT) was right behind him tying for 15th place with a 153 (76-77). Rounding out the weekend for UConn was Nathan Thomsen (Rocky Hill, CT) who shot a 155 (80-75) to tie for 24h place, while Sean Vigue (81-75-Lebanon, CT) and John Humphreys (77-79-Niantic, CT) both finished in a tie for 30th shooting 156s. Thomsen and Vigueeach shot a team-low round of 75 on day two.
The Huskies will compete next at the BIG 5 Invitational on April 10, 2001, at the Willimantic Golf Course in Willimantic, CT.
